So you just bought yourself a brand new PC. You're excited and thrilled. You then rushed to your house as you cannot wait to use your new device. The first boot took less than 14 seconds to start and then after a couple of months your new PC is running as slow as your old computer. Even your two year old smartphone is doing better than that PC. This is that freaking moment which everyone have experienced at least once in their life. I have went through it, too. I bought a new windows PC three years ago, The first 20-39 boots took just 14-20 seconds and then it started getting slower and slower. So, what is the deal with these computers? Why do they sometimes work even worse than our smartphones?
Why computers don't run as smoothly as smartphones? Though computers and smartphones can now do almost the same thing, still they are completely different. Smartphone operating systems don't allow apps to run independently. That means, no app can run automatically in the background until you give them the permission to do so. On the other hand, computers give complete freedom to all the apps to do whatever they want, Apps then end up taking the computer resources making your device slower day by day.
Let's now understand why does smartphone and computer operating systems do so and what actually makes the difference.
Why smartphones are now getting faster than computers?

Smartphones are now way smarter than they were used to. Many modifications have been made overtime. From button smartphones to touchscreens and touchscreens to 16:9 ratio displays. Nowadays smartphones have more features than computers and laptops. Out of all these, stability has been the main focus of Android devices. Certain phones now come with an anti-lag feature which prevents the phone from getting slow. All these features make up smartphones way more stable, fast and smooth. They are able to do so because most of the Android phones do not allow apps to run in background. That means, no app can run automatically in the background or use the smartphone resources until you use them or give them the permission to do so. This practice makes the phone run more effectively.
Why do computers get slow overtime?

Unlike smartphones, PCs and Laptops are built for high usage and performance. They have a lot more resources like high memory, high storage, high ram and powerful processors. Apart from that, computer operating systems like Windows allows all the apps to run in the background which definitely consumes a lot of system resources. If you do not want apps to run automatically, you have to manually stop them from doing that. A lot of apps also have startups. What are computer startups? Startups are the software/programs that start automatically when the computer is turned on. It is recommended to check the number of startups your computer has.
The other factors that make a computer device become slower overtime are as follows:
The RAM: Ram or Random access memory is like a computer memory that stores the temporary files in your computer. In other words, RAM gives the real time processing power to your device. As computers allow apps to automatically run in the background, a lower RAM can lead to your device being slow as it would not get enough processing power. It is recommended to take a PC with a higher RAM to prevent this.
A bunch of startups: Startups are the software/programs that start automatically when the computer is turned on. These can negatively affect your computer's performance by increasing the boot time. To check the number of startups you have, 'Go to Settings > Apps > Startup.' Make sure to turn off the startups you don't want your computer to run.
The Storage: We never settle with a single software or programe. When you bought your computer, it was almost empty. Only the OS and default apps and browsers were installed. But as the PC became old, you installed a bunch of softwares and programe, this made your PC storage full. The storage plays the most important role in PC performance these days. Before purchasing a PC, it is recommended to check out the type of storage that suits you.
Processor: Purchasing the wrong processor for your needs is one of the most common mistakes that people do. You should always choose the right processor for your needs. For example, if your main purpose is watching videos, browsing the web, school work, or work in powerpoint, word and excel, then you should probably get a less powerful processor as the work you need to do does not require any high end specs. If your main goal to to produce 4k videos, sound production and gamming, then you should get a powerful processor as these works need high specs. Processor brand is a factor too. Always look for the right brand and specs for the best performance.
Viruses: Your computer attacked with a virus can lead to poor performance. Viruses, just like they affect humans, affect the computers too. Therefore, always scan those flash drives and DVDs before using them. Always download apps from trusted sources and websites. If your computer behaves abnormally, do check for viruses.
How to keep your computer running smoothly all the time?

The first time you start your computer device, it works perfectly. No lag, no heat up, almost nothing. In most of the cases, you are the reason of making your computer slow. You install softwares that use a lot of resources making your computer slow. So, does that mean you should never install any software or program? Well, Probably not. If you cannot install or run anything, then why to purchase a computer? So get this. Installing softwares, programs and apps is perfectly fine. The only thing you need to keep in mind is that you should only install the softwares and apps that meet your system requirements. That said, if you have a 32-bit computer, installing a 64-bit compatible software, will make no sense.
How to keep your computer running smoothly all the time? Always install the right apps that are compatible with your RAM, processor, OS, graphics and CPU architecture of your computer. Make sure to have at least 100 GB of free space all the time in your device. These practices will guarantee the best performance of the computer.
