Your eyes focus on 50 different objects every second. The only organ more complex than the eye is the brain. Your eyes can distinguish approximately 10 million different colors. It is impossible to sneeze withyour eyes open. Ommatophobia is a fear of the eyes. The average person blinks 12 times a minute. That's about 4,200,000 times a year! Eyes are comprised of rods and cones. Rods allow you to see shapes, while cones are responsible for detecting and deciphering colors. You actually see with your brain, not your eyes. Our eyes function like a camera, capturing light and sending data back to the brain. You see things upside down - it is your brain which turns the image the right way up.  The world’s most common eye colour is brown.  If the human eye was a digital camera, it would have 576 megapixels. The human eye can see 500 shades of grey. The cornea is the transparent covering of the iris and pupil.  Your nose gets runny when you cry as the tears drain into your nasal passages The muscles in the eye are 100 times stronger than they need to be to perform their function.  While a fingerprint has 40 unique characteristics, an iris has 256. This is why retina scans are increasingly being used for security purposes. Oily fish, vitamin A and vitamin C can all help to preserve good eyesight.
